The Court granted a six‑month extension of time for the arbitral tribunal to pass its award under Section 29(A).
Summary
The petition was filed under Section 29(A) of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, seeking a six‑month extension for the arbitral tribunal to render its award. The petitioners, Basavraj Sew and SSNR JV, argued that the arbitral proceedings had progressed sufficiently, with the claimants having concluded their arguments, thereby justifying an extension. The respondent, Union of India (Western Railways), raised no objection to the request. The Court examined whether the statutory criteria for granting an extension under Section 29(A) were satisfied. Finding that the parties had made adequate progress and that a cause for extension on merits existed, the Court allowed the petition. Consequently, a six‑month extension was granted, commencing from the date the order is uploaded.
