Holding
The court may correct clerical errors in its orders under its inherent jurisdiction.
Summary
The appellants sought correction of clerical mistakes in a judgment dated 24‑03‑2026, specifically the survey number of land (typed as “39” instead of “33”) and the enhanced amount (typed as Rs. 80 instead of Rs. 81). The learned counsel for the appellants highlighted these errors and requested the court to amend the order. The bench examined the request and, invoking its inherent power to correct typographical errors, ordered that the necessary corrections be made and the revised order uploaded. The court emphasized that such corrections do not alter the substantive findings of the original order. Consequently, the motion for correction was disposed of.
Issues considered
- Whether the court may correct typographical errors in its own order without altering its substantive effect?
Subjects
- clerical error correction
- judicial orders
- speaking to minutes
