Bombay High Court

MAYUR RAVINDRA CHAUDHARYversusTHE STATE OF MAHARASHTRA THROUGH ITS THE COMMISSIONER OF STATE EXCISE AND OTHERS

Disposal
DISPOSED OFF

Holding

The High Court may direct the Additional Chief Secretary, State Excise to decide the pending revision petition within six months and any interim relief application within six weeks, and thus disposes the writ petition.

Summary

Mayur Ravindra Chaudhary filed a writ petition before the Bombay High Court seeking directions against the State of Maharashtra’s Excise Department. The petitioner had earlier filed a revision petition on 2 November 2025 which remained pending. The Court examined whether it could compel the Additional Chief Secretary, State Excise to decide the pending revision within a fixed period and to prioritize any interim relief application. It held that the writ court could issue such administrative directions to ensure expeditious justice. Accordingly, the Court ordered the Additional Chief Secretary to decide the revision petition within six months and any interim relief within six weeks. The writ petition was thereafter disposed.
