Holding
The petition is disposed without adjudicating the merits, and the petitioners are directed to make fresh representations to the D.I.G. (Establishment) for consideration.
Summary
The petitioners, former Indian Army personnel now serving as constables in the Uttar Pradesh Police, filed a writ petition seeking that their prior army service be counted under Paragraph‑410 of the U.P. Police Regulations. They alleged that despite repeated representations to the police authorities, no decision had been rendered on their request. The Court, after hearing counsel, disposed of the petition at the admission stage, directing the petitioners to submit fresh representations to the Deputy Inspector General (Establishment) within three weeks, accompanied by a certified copy of the order. The D.I.G. was further instructed to decide the matter within six weeks in accordance with law. The Court clarified that its order does not constitute a merits-based decision and that the third respondent must independently consider the petitioners' grievances.
