Allahabad High Court

RAJ VIKARAM SINGHversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 2 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The court directed the education authority to investigate the claim, obtain the correct name from the issuing body, and correct the certificates if the petitioner's contention is upheld.

Summary

The petitioner, Raj Vikaram Singh, who passed her High School Examination in 2021, discovered that her mother's name was incorrectly entered as "Amamika Singh" in her Class XII and Migration Certificates, while the correct name "Anamika Singh" appears on the High School mark sheet. She filed a writ petition seeking a direction to the respondents to correct the error. The court found the grievance genuine and noted that respondent No.2 (the education authority) was willing to examine the matter. The petition was disposed with specific directions: respondent No.2 must consider the petitioner's application, obtain the correct name from respondent No.3 within three weeks, and, if the petitioner's claim is substantiated, correct the certificates and deliver them within two months. The order sets clear timelines for the entire correction process.
