Holding
The Court directed the Scrutiny Committee to decide the petitioner’s Scheduled Tribe claim within six months.
Summary
The petitioner, a minor represented by his father, filed a writ petition seeking a court direction for the Scrutiny Committee to decide his claim of belonging to the Thakur Scheduled Tribe, a claim pending since October 2025. He needed the decision before the NEET 2027 examination. The State, through its Advocate General, indicated the claim was under a vigilance inquiry and the Committee would decide within six months. The Court ordered the Scrutiny Committee to determine the caste claim within six months from the order date. The petition was subsequently disposed.
Issues considered
- Whether the High Court can direct the Scrutiny Committee to decide a Scheduled Tribe claim within a specified time frame
