The High Court held that where a genuine, court‑verified compromise has been effected between the parties, the proceedings may be quashed under its inherent powers under Section 482 Cr.P.C.
Summary
The applicants filed a petition under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code seeking to quash the cognizance, summoning order and charge sheet in a case under the IPC and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention) Act, alleging that the dispute had been amicably settled by a court‑verified compromise. The trial court had verified the compromise on 24‑12‑2024, and the informant had returned the deposited amount. Both the State and the second opposite party acknowledged the settlement. Relying on Supreme Court precedents that allow quashing of criminal proceedings where parties have settled their grievances, the High Court held that the case was suitable for exercise of its inherent powers under Section 482. Consequently, the Court allowed the application and quashed the impugned proceedings, cognizance order and charge sheet.

5. Learned counsel for the applicants argued that the parties have settled
the dispute amicably out of court and on the basis of compromise the
applicants filed the present application before this Court in which an order
for verification of the compromise was passed on 23.10.2024. It is argued
that in compliance of the said order of this Court, the parties have filed
the order of this Court along with compromise before the concerned court
for its verification after which the concerned court has verified the said
compromise vide its order dated 24.12.2024, copy of the said order has
been placed on the record by the office through its report dated

evidence against the applicants and therefore the impugned proceedings
be quashed on the ground of compromise between the parties.
