Allahabad High Court

VIRENDRA SINGHversusSTATE OF UTTAR PRADESH AND 3 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The Court disposed of the petition without deciding the merits, directing the petitioner to file a representation within two weeks and the respondent to decide it expeditiously.

Summary

Virendra Singh filed a writ petition seeking mandamus directing the Uttar Pradesh authorities to promote him to Sub Inspector for a 2025 promotion and to Head Constable with effect from 2016, along with consequential benefits. The petitioner’s counsel requested permission to file a fresh, comprehensive representation on the matter. The respondent’s standing counsel argued that the petition should not be kept pending and that the grievance should be considered according to law. The Court disposed of the petition, directing the petitioner to submit a representation within two weeks and directing the respondent to decide it expeditiously, preferably within twelve weeks, after hearing all parties. The Court expressly noted that it did not examine the merits and issued the order strictly in accordance with law.
