Allahabad High Court

SANT RAMversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 3 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The Court directed the respondent to decide the petitioner’s appeal within twelve weeks, thereby disposing of the writ petition.

Summary

Sant Ram filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing the Principal Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resource Department, U.P., to decide his appeal dated 11‑03‑2024 within a fixed period. The petitioner argued that his appeal was pending and required expeditious disposal. The State, through its Standing Counsel, agreed that the petition served no useful purpose if left pending and supported a direction for timely decision. The Court, without addressing the merits of the underlying appeal, ordered the respondent to decide the appeal within twelve weeks of the certified copy of the order, subject to no other legal impediment. The writ petition was thus disposed of with the mandated direction.
