Allahabad High Court

VIJAY KUMAR PALversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 2 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The Court directed Respondent No.2 to conclude the disciplinary proceedings against the petitioner within four weeks, without adjudicating the merits of the case.

Summary

The petitioner, Vijay Kumar Pal, filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing Respondent No.2 to conclude pending disciplinary proceedings arising from a charge sheet dated 04-04-2023. The petitioner argued that the proceedings were unduly delayed and requested an expeditious decision. The State, as standing counsel, supported the petition, stating that no purpose would be served by keeping the petition pending and that a time‑frame should be fixed. The Court, after hearing counsel, disposed of the petition without expressing any view on the merits, directing Respondent No.2 to complete the disciplinary inquiry within four weeks of the order, subject to hearing and any legal impediment. The order was signed on 30 September 2026.
