Allahabad High Court

CHANDRA PAL SINGHversusSTATE OF U.P. AND ANOTHER

Decided

Holding

The Court directed the Chairman/Principal Secretary of the State Level Caste Scrutiny Committee to decide the petitioner’s pending appeal within one month, without granting unnecessary adjournments.

Summary

Petitioner Chandra Pal Singh filed a writ petition seeking a direction to the Chairman/Principal Secretary of the State Level Caste Scrutiny Committee, U.P., to decide his appeal dated 16 July 2021, filed under a 1996 Government Order, within a time‑bound period. The State, through its standing counsel, argued that the petition should not be kept pending and that a direction to consider the grievance would be appropriate. The Court, without examining the merits of the appeal, ordered the respondent to decide the pending appeal expeditiously, preferably within one month of receiving a certified copy of the order, and to avoid unnecessary adjournments. The direction aims to ensure prompt administrative action. The petition was consequently disposed with the said direction.
