Allahabad High Court
SANTOSH KUMARversusSTATE BANK OF INDIA
- Decided
Holding
The court declined to grant the writ of mandamus because a settlement had been effected between the parties in a National Lok Adalat.
Summary
Petitioner Santosh Kumar filed a writ petition under Article 226 seeking a mandamus directing State Bank of India to reschedule two of his loan accounts. The bank contended that a settlement had been reached in a National Lok Adalat on 14 March 2026, wherein the petitioner would pay an upfront amount of Rs. 50,000 and the balance by 25 March 2026, and produced the settlement document. The court examined whether it could entertain the mandamus relief despite the settlement. Finding that the parties had already resolved the dispute through the Lok Adalat, the court declined to grant the writ. Consequently, the petition was consigned to the records, effectively dismissing the relief sought.
