Allahabad High Court

SMT. DHARMWATIversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 16 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The Court ordered the respondents to decide the petitioner’s representation within eight weeks, without adjudicating the merits, and disposed of the writ petition.

Summary

Smt. Dharmwati filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing the State of U.P. and other respondents to decide her representation dated 5 February 2026 by a reasoned order within a stipulated time. The petitioner limited the prayer to a direction for timely decision, not the merits of the representation. The Court observed that keeping the petition pending would serve no useful purpose. With the parties' consent, the Court disposed of the petition, directing the respondent authority to consider and decide the representation within eight weeks of the certified copy of the order, after hearing all stakeholders. No merits of the representation were examined.
