Allahabad High Court

AVDHESH SINGHversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 6 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

A writ petition is not maintainable for a private dispute between the petitioner and private individuals.

Summary

Petitioner Avdhesh Singh filed a writ petition challenging actions of the State of U.P. and private respondents. The State's standing counsel raised a preliminary objection that the petitioner's grievance was against private individuals, making the writ petition non-maintainable. The court examined the objection and concluded that it would not interfere in a private dispute through a writ jurisdiction. Consequently, the petition was dismissed, but the petitioner was allowed to seek any other legal remedy available. The order was pronounced on May 5, 2026.
