Allahabad High Court

DEVRAJ SINGHversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 4 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

A writ petition is not maintainable for a private dispute, and the Court will not interfere.

Summary

The petitioner, Devraj Singh, filed a writ petition before the Allahabad High Court seeking relief against the State of U.P. and four others. The State's standing counsel raised a preliminary objection, contending that the petitioner's grievance was against private individuals and therefore not maintainable as a writ petition. The Court examined the objection and concluded that it was not appropriate to intervene in a private dispute through a writ jurisdiction. Consequently, the Court declined to interfere in the matter. The petition was disposed of, with the Court directing the petitioner to pursue the appropriate legal remedy available under law.
