Allahabad High Court

SMT. NEERAJ TIWARIversusState of U.P. AND 4 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The Court disposed of the writ petition without granting mandamus, directing an expeditious decision on the pending licence transfer application.

Summary

Smt. Neeraj Tiwari filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing the authorities to expedite the transfer of a firearm licence that had been issued to her deceased husband. The petition, filed in 2021, remained pending and the only relief sought was the issuance of the writ. The High Court observed that the petition was unnecessarily delayed and that the pending application for licence transfer should be decided expeditiously based on a fresh police report. Consequently, the Court disposed of the writ petition without granting the mandamus, directing the authorities to consider the transfer promptly. The order was pronounced on 18 September 2026.

                                    2. This writ petition is unnecessarily pending since 2021 as the only

that there is any good reason to transfer arms license or not.
