Allahabad High Court

RAMCHANDAR PALversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 11 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The petition is not maintainable as the grievance is private and must be pursued through ordinary remedies.

Summary

Ramchandar Pal filed a writ petition in the Allahabad High Court seeking mandamus to protect his life and liberty and to compel the District Magistrate of Mirzapur to decide an application dated 17‑12‑2025. The State of Uttar Pradesh contended that the dispute was private in nature and that the petitioner should resort to filing an FIR or a civil suit, rendering the writ petition non‑maintainable. The petitioner did not contest this characterization. The Court held that the petition was indeed not maintainable as it involved a private grievance that must be addressed through ordinary legal remedies. Consequently, the petition was dismissed, with liberty to approach the appropriate authority.
