Allahabad High Court
ROHIT KUMARversusUNION OF INDIA AND 5 OTHERS
- Decided
Holding
The Court held that the petitioner may comply with the passport office’s procedural requirements and the Regional Passport Officer must issue the renewal order, thereby granting the relief sought.
Summary
The petitioner, Rohit Kumar, filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing the Regional Passport Officer in Lucknow to renew his passport (No. N1904025) promptly. The Regional Passport Office had issued a letter dated 05‑08‑2026 requiring the petitioner to appear in person with relevant documents within 30 days. The petitioner agreed to comply with the conditions specified in the letter. The Court, after hearing both sides and with their consent, ordered that the petitioner may comply with the letter’s terms and that the passport officer should issue the renewal order in accordance with law, citing the precedent of Pawan Kumar Rajbhar v. Union of India. The writ petition was therefore disposed of, allowing the renewal process to proceed.
