The Court directed the LARRA to decide Reference Case No. 238 of 2024 within six months, without deciding the merits of the petition.
Summary
Petitioner Pratik Shukla filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Authority (LARRA), Kanpur Nagar, to decide Reference Case No. 238 of 2024, which pertained to land acquired and an award made in his favour. The petitioner argued that the matter was pending before LARRA and required expeditious resolution. The High Court observed that keeping the matter pending served no useful purpose and, without adjudicating the merits, issued a direction for LARRA to decide the reference case within six months of the order. The court disposed of the writ petition on the basis of this direction. It was clarified that the court had not decided the substantive issues of the underlying land acquisition case.
