RAHUL RAGHUVANSHIversusSTATE OF U.P. AND ANOTHER

Decided

Holding

The court held that the respondent must consider the petitioner’s application for an arms license in accordance with law, within a two‑month period, after any necessary fresh police report.

Summary

Petitioner Rahul Raghuvanshi filed a writ petition seeking a direction to the second respondent to consider his application dated 09.01.2025 for an arms license for sports purposes. The petitioner argued that the application was filed in the proper format with requisite documents. The standing counsel for the State submitted that the respondent would consider the application in accordance with law. The court, after hearing counsel, disposed of the petition, observing that the respondent must consider the application strictly in accordance with law and do so expeditiously, preferably within two months after taking note of a fresh police report if necessary.
