Allahabad High Court

VIRENDRA PRATAP SINGHversusSTATE OF U.P. AND ANOTHER

Decided

Holding

The court directed the respondent to consider the petitioner's arms license application under the sports quota strictly in accordance with law, preferably within two months.

Summary

Petitioner Virendra Pratap Singh filed a writ petition seeking a directive to the State of Uttar Pradesh to consider his application dated 14 November 2025 for an arms license under the sports quota. The petitioner argued that his application was in proper format with requisite documents. The respondent, represented by the Standing Counsel, contended that the application would be considered in accordance with law. The court, after hearing both sides, disposed of the petition, observing that the respondent should consider the application strictly according to law and do so expeditiously, preferably within two months, after reviewing any fresh police report if needed. No substantive merits of the application were adjudicated; the court merely issued a procedural direction.
