Allahabad High Court

RANVEER SINGHversusSTATE OF U.P. AND 2 OTHERS

Decided

Holding

The court directed the Up‑Ziladhikari to decide the pending suit and all related applications within ten months, without expressing any opinion on the merits.

Summary

The petitioner filed a writ petition seeking a mandamus directing the Up‑Ziladhikari of Etah to decide a suit filed on 31‑01‑2026 under Section 144 of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code, 2006, and to maintain status quo over certain lands. The petition also requested an order for an interim injunction in the suit. The court noted that the suit and the application for temporary injunction have been pending since January 2026 and that justice demands their speedy disposal. Without expressing any view on the merits, the court disposed of the petition, directing the Up‑Ziladhikari to hear and decide the suit, along with all pending applications, within ten months of the certified copy of the order, without unnecessary adjournments. The order also reiterated the need for a hearing and compliance with law. No direction on the status‑quo relief was included in the final order.

Issues considered

  • Whether the Up‑Ziladhikari should be directed to decide the pending suit under Section 144 of the U.P. Revenue Code, 2006 expeditiously.
